I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.
—2 Timothy 4:7

I have some big goals for my life… and I manage to get a lot done in a day. People often ask me how.

Well, there’s my faith, of course. I make time to talk with God every day, no matter how busy I am.

But my #1 secret is my commitment to something greater than myself.

Mediocrity and commitment cannot co-exist.

If you are afraid of committing—to a certain income goal, to being fit, to excellent parenting or whatever else—you are never going to be who you want to be or get where you want to go.

And as anyone knows who proclaimed on January 1 to go to the gym every morning and is now kicking herself at bathing suit season, commitment is not reflected in what you say.

Nope. It’s manifested in what you DO.

Commitment is simple.

Commitment is consistent.

Commitment is reliable.

Commitment is action.

So I practice doing. I know what I have to get done and I do it. I get up early. I always have my prayer time early because it’s too easy later on in the day to be pulled by something “more important.” I put important items on my calendar. I get help when needed. I create systems. I consistently take the actions I know I need to take.

Keeping committed to things greater than myself—integrity, inspiration, helping people live their dreams—keeps my life in perspective and keeps my business focused.

There’s no substitute for commitment and no shortcut around it.
And I know you can do it.

So, here are the Seven Commitment Commandments I follow:

Thou Shalt Pay Attention To Detail
Thou Shalt Anticipate Obstacles Before They Occur
Thou Shalt Avoid Overcommitment
Thou Shalt Be On Time
Thou Shalt Be Optimistic
Thou Shalt Follow Up
Thou Shalt Follow Through

Which ones are easiest for you to keep? Which are hardest?
